Sunday @ 7
November 20, 2011

Good evening Imagine families and welcome to this week’s edition of Sunday @ 7.

Tomorrow is picture retake day. If your student was absent on our previously scheduled picture day, he or she can take a retake tomorrow.

SES after school tutoring is now in full swing, with all of our providers participating on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 3:00-4:30. Another open enrollment period will occur in late January.

Due to the high amount of traffic in the front office during dismissal, we have decided to re-enact a former policy of shutting down the front office from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. every school day. What this means is that the front office staff will be available to answer the phone lines but parents and students will not be allowed in the front office area during that time frame. If you need to pick up your student early it must happen before 2:30 p.m. and it always helps if you call in advance so that we may have your child ready upon your arrival. If you arrive to the front office after 2:30 p.m. you will be required to pick up your child from the side entrance and CAR RIDER dismissal begins at 3:05 p.m. An outline of this dismissal policy will be sent home with your students this week and the policy will go into effect immediately following Thanksgiving break, which is Monday, November 28th.

Market day orders are due to your child’s teacher by Friday Dec 2. The items will be delivered to the school on Thursday Dec 8 from 6-7pm. This month’s feature is cookie dough! For each tub of cookie dough that you purchase the C.A.R.E Crew will receive an extra bonus! As always Market Day gladly accepts EBT, cash and checks. If you have any questions please contact Nikki Goodlow at 317.833.8376.

We are still collecting Box Tops for Education! Box tops can be found on hundreds of the foods you eat each day! Simply cut the box top off and send it to your child’s teacher.

A reminder that Imagine East will be closed in observance of Thanksgiving on Thursday and Friday, November 24 and 25. We will reopen on Monday, November 28.

This week’s quote comes from John F. Kennedy: “As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.”

Enrollment for this session of SES tutoring is closed; however, we will be having another open enrollment period in late January.

Attention poets, singers, actors/actresses, and dancers and stage crew. There will be auditions for Imagine East’s “Our Legacy” Program on Wednesday November 16, 2011 beginning at 5pm. Our Board of Directors meeting will be held tomorrow at 6 pm and is always open to the public.

Progress reports will be sent home on Friday, November 18. Be on the look out for them.

This week’s nugget of wisdom comes from Lord Byron, “Always laugh when you can. It is cheap medicine.”

Don’t be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of other’s opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary”

Sunday @ 7 September 18

Per the Indiana Department of Education, absences are considered excused only if accompanied by a note of illness from a parent, guardian or doctor; military leave; maternity or bereavement. All others are unexcused. What this means is you will still need to call in your student’s absence every day but you will also need to send in a note from you or your doctor about the illness. Your students’ absence will be considered unexcused until a note is received. Also, 4 tardies will be considered 1 unexcused absence. A tardy that is not accompanied by written documentation is considered unexcused as well. A detailed letter of our attendance policy will be coming home again this week. Please make sure you read and understand it. Our goal is to put your child’s education at the forefront of everything we do so know that we will do whatever we can to partner with you.

Welcome to Ms. Heather Stiening who is joining our 1st grade team and Mr. Scott Jones who is joining our 4th grade team!

Fall pictures will be taken beginning at 8:30 am on Tuesday, September 20. Please remember that students must be in uniform. If you need a picture order form, please contact your child’s teacher.

Just a reminder that Hallelujah Praise Dance Phase 1 for Kindergarten through 4th grade will be meeting at 4 pm tomorrow. Phase 2 for 5th through 8th grades will meet on Friday at 4 pm.

Congratulations to Mr. Jones, Mrs. Mixon, Mr. Coleman, Miss Katz, Mr. Waskom, Mrs. Goff, Miss Mueller, Mr. Peel-Cooke and Mrs. Augustus’ classes for perfect attendance on Count Day! They will all receive an ice cream party.

Congratulations go out to Cherelle Pruitt, RayeVan Nelson, Corianna Hill, Gianna Powell,  Devion Dodson, J’Mon Slaughter, Randi Germany, Krystal Thomas, Faith Crowe and Diana DeLaCruz for being chosen to represent our students on our Student Council! We are so very proud of you!

If your daughter signed up for Cheer Camp, forms must be turned in tomorrow and money is due the first day of camp. K-2 meets tomorrow, grades 3-5 meet Wednesday and grades 6-8 meet Friday. All meeting times are from 3:30-5. Contact Miss Lee or Miss Limp for more information.

Many families have asked for information about our tutoring programs. We will be hosting three different tutoring options this year- intercession remediation and after school tutoring through Supplemental Educational Services, as well as homework help for our ESL students. Details about all of these programs will be coming home soon!! Thank you for your patience as we finalize our plans.

This concludes this week’s edition of Sunday @ 7. I’d like you to leave you with this: “Children are like wet cement; whatever falls on them makes an impression” – Dr. Haim Ginott. Let’s make sure we are making positive impressions on our children. As cliché as it sounds, they ARE our future. Have a great week!
