Our current session of SES tutoring is coming to a close. Current students participating in SES tutoring will take home a form on Monday with their final date of tutoring – some make up sessions are scheduled, so please look for this important note home if your child is currently in SES tutoring.

3. All registration forms for our second session of SES tutoring must be returned to school by Wednesday, February 15. You will receive written notice of the start date once final details are put together. Make sure you get those forms in on time!!

4. Our Book Fair will run throughout the week of February 20^th. The fair will be open throughout the school day as well as during Parent Teacher conferences. We are participating in a wonderful program called One for Books this year in conjunction with the Book Fair.  You will be receiving fliers on Monday about this program. We are asking all students to bring in ONE DOLLAR to donate to this incredible cause. The donations will go towards purchasing additional books for our classroom libraries.  Every dollar earned Scholastic will match to help families in need by donating those dollars to Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, Kids in Distressed Situations INC., and the Kids In Need Foundation. So, please make sure you contribute to this worthwhile cause. The classroom that collects the most money during our One For Books drive will receive a special lunch with Mrs. Rivers.

Parent/Teacher conferences will be taking place during the week of February 20-24^th after school. Please look for our conference date and time to come home this week with your child.

The first round of ISTEP starts in 15 days. Please make sure you are having your child to read at least 30 minutes every night. Also, check out the Department of Education website for tips on what you can do at home to prepare your child for this important test and practice test problems.

Important Information about Imagine East

Imagine Life Sciences Academy East has been identified for Year 1, Comprehensive/Intensive Improvement Status by the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE), based on ISTEP performance. A school is identified for improvement after it has not made Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) for two consecutive years.

IMAGINE EAST RECENTLY OFFERED SCHOOL CHOICE:

• A total of 16 students transferred out of Imagine East; 13 transferred to Oaklandon Elementary School and 3 transferred to Fall Creek Valley Middle School.

IMAGINE EAST IS NOW OFFERING A SECOND SESSION OF FREE AFTER-SCHOOL TUTORING FOR YOUR CHILD THROUGH OUR SUPPLEMENTAL EDUCATION SERVICES PROGRAM:

• Your child is eligible if:
o He/she receives free/reduced price lunch, and
o Did not pass ISTEP+ (or other measure of academic success).
• Tutoring may take place after school, on the weekends, or during the summer.
• Tutoring may take place at a variety of locations (e.g., at the school, libraries, community centers, online, child’s home, etc.) depending on the provider selected.
• Transportation will be provided for students who receive tutoring at our school or at any other location within our district boundaries. Parents may also be reimbursed for mileage.
• Information about free tutoring is available at www.imagineschoolsilsae.com

Please note – if your child participated in our first session of SES tutoring and completed all classes, he/she is unable to participate in this session. Space is limited!! If the number of students interested is larger than the number of slots available, students will be ranked in order of academic need and placed into the program.

A list of providers for our school district and an enrollment form are attached. If you would like your child to receive these free services, please review the provider information, then complete and return the enclosed form by Wednesday, February 15, 2012.

After receiving your request for services, a meeting will be set up with you and the tutoring provider to create learning and achievement goals for your child.

2. Just a reminder that our Winter session of Girls Inc for 4th and 5th grade girls has resumed. There are a few more spots available. Please contact Ms. Vik at 317.890.9100 ext 105 for questions or to sign up your daughter.

3. Our boy’s basketball team will be playing at Kipp on Tuesday, October 26 and at Mt. Carmel Church against Lighthouse on Thursday, January 26. Both games start at 5:30. Please come show your support for our players and cheerleaders.

4. Parents, please remember that all students that are not registered to receive our Imagine Zone after care services should be picked up no later than 3:30 every day. Also, please remember that all students need to be at school by 8 AM each day. Our students are trying to achieve perfect attendance rewards. Being here on time will help them achieve this goal.

5. Parents, please plan to attend our next CARE crew meeting which is scheduled to take place on Monday, January 30th at 5:30 PM. The meeting takes place in the auditorium.

2. Parents, please be mindful that any absence that is not accompanied by a doctor’s statement or a note of illness from a parent/guardian is considered unexcused. Absences in excess of 10 days for the school year will result in a formal filing with the Marion County Prosecutor’s office. This is a state law. Students have to be at school every day and on time daily in order to receive all of the important educational information presented. Please do everything that you can to get your child to school every day by 8 AM.

3. Tuesday, January 17th kicks off our new school-wide attendance incentive! Classes with perfect attendance each day will race around a paper track within their grade levels. Every month, the class that is closest to the finish line or makes it to the finish line will get to choose a little something extra fun for their class. Prizes could be any one of the following….a pie in Mr. Dinkins face, pajama dress down day, or popcorn & a movie, to name a few. So get your students to school each day and we’ll see you at the finish line!

4. Girls Inc. for registered 4th and 5th grade girls will begin on Thursday, January 19 at 3:30. Parents must pick the girls up promptly at 4:30 pm.

5. We have had many questions about after school tutoring lately. We are pleased to announce that information about a new tutoring program will be sent home with invited students in grades 3-8 on Monday, January 23. This tutoring program will begin on January 30, and will be conducted on Mondays and Thursdays from 3:30-4:30. Also, our SES tutoring program will continue for students who are already enrolled. We hope to invite more students to attend our next SES tutoring session – invitations will go home for that program later this month.”

6. Hallelujah Praise Dancers will meet on Thursday’s from 3:45 through 4:45 until further notice.

7. “Our Legacy” program practice will begin this Thursday, January 19th at 3:45-4:45 we are looking for students to help in the areas of speaking parts as well as stage crew… WE are excited about the quickly approaching event, so plan to come out and show support of our students at the “Our Legacy” Program on February 24th and 25th at 6pm.Please Contact Ms.Sallie ext.120 if you with any questions or concerns

8. Attention parents of fourth – eighth grade students. We will be hosting a wonderful afterschool program here at Imagine East called Afternoons Rock. This is a program that teaches character development to students as well as alcohol and drug prevention. The program will run two days per week for eight weeks starting the week of January 23rd. Please look for permission forms to come home with your child on Tuesday, January 17th. The signed permission forms should be returned to your child’s teacher by Friday, January 20th. We will NOT provide transportation home for students taken part in the Afterschool Rocks program. Students will have to be picked up by a parent if they plan to participate in this program.

Good evening and Happy New Year Imagine families. This is Mrs. Rivers with today’s Sunday at Seven message for Imagine East. We truly hope that everyone had a restful holiday break and that our students are ready to return for a rigorous second half of the academic school year.

School resumes bright and early Monday, January 9th. All students should be present to school by 8 AM. Our teachers were able to take part in several worthwhile professional development sessions last week and they are ready to implement many of the strategies learned with our students. We truly can’t wait to start this New Year off with our wonderful Imagine students.

Parents, this month’s board meeting scheduled to take place on Monday, January 9th has been cancelled. The next scheduled board meeting will take place on February 13, 2012 at 6:00 PM.

Highlights from last week include:

Eighth grade members of our Panther Basketball team were able to take part in a day of shadowing at Guerin High School. The students were actually able to sit and take part in high school classrooms, they spoke with teachers, students, and administrators to help them begin to prepare and think about the transition to high school.

1. Make sure you are clipping those Box-Top labels and sending those in with your child on a consistent basis. Remember, this is a way that our school can earn extra cash. We greatly appreciate your support of this with the Box-Tops program.
2. If you are a person that drinks Coca-Cola products please save your bottle tops. Our school is also able to earn money by turning on the bottle tops for Coke rewards. The bottle caps can be brought in to the front office and placed in our Coke rewards basket or sent in a baggy with your child to their teacher.

INDIANAPOLIS — INDIANAPOLIS — An Indianapolis single-father working to rebuild his life after a car accident said he is grateful for the kind hearts of fellow co-workers who stepped in to make sure his son could have a special Christmas.

On a rainy night in November, Moore was driving home from his second job and lost control of his car.

Moore said the accident left him paralyzed from the chest down, RTV6′s Eboné Monet reported.

“The next thing you know, I’m waking up in the hospital, and I’m like, ‘What happened to me?’ I tried to get up and I was in so much pain. I couldn’t move and feel my legs and I said, ‘Oh my God, I’m paralyzed.’ The next thing I thought was, ‘What am I going to do about my son?’” Moore said.

Thanks to the generosity of loved ones, his 7-year-old son received an outpouring of support after the accident.

“I feel very fortunate for all the help and support that I have. One of the things that hurts me is not being able to do it myself, but I’m keeping the faith that I will be able to be as functional as I can,” Moore said.

Family and friends said they wanted to make sure Moore could spend Christmas with his son at the Rehabilitation Hospital of Indiana on Sunday.

“I’m having a good day because I love my dad,” Jason Moore Junior said.

Jason Moore’s co-workers even pitched in to make sure his son had presents to open.

”I think what goes around comes around. I think that you never know when you’re going to need a little help or a little support,” co-worker Rachel Kornowski said.

Before the accident, Moore worked for Capital City Residential Healthcare as a teaching partner where he helped people with disabilities.

Moore said he hopes to one day walk again.

“I don’t give up hope because I want to be strong for (my son) and make sure he’s stays smiling. I don’t want him to see me sad or giving-up hope in life,” he said.
